Welcome!
Hello! I'm glad you're here checking out my website. I am Jennifer Wallace. I love engaging with readers and fellow writers. I am an educator and a published author. I have a self-published non-fiction children's book, When He Opened His Eyes: Gordon's Story, and a memoir published by DriverWorks Ink, Miss G and Me, which was chosen by the Saskatchewan Library Association for One Book One Province in 2024. I love living in Saskatoon in Treaty Six Territory. I enjoy writing articles and speaking opportunities as well.

My Writing Story
Ever since I could hold a pencil or pen in my left hand, I have loved writing. Writing letters to my aunt in Jamaica was an early memory. I wrote whenever and wherever I could: poems, stories, essays, articles, and journal entries, throughout my childhood and young adulthood. In elementary school I won a prize for poetry in a Write On! contest hosted by the Saskatoon Public Library. In high school one of my non-fiction short stories was published in WindScript. I look back on those moments as stepping stones for my writing journey. In university I wrote a couple of articles for the University of Saskatchewan's student newspaper The Sheaf. I began writing Miss G and Me: A Daughter's Memoir over twenty years ago. It was published in February 2022. I currently write articles for Sister Triangle Magazine. I have led writers' workshops at Sister Triangle retreats and for the One Book One Province tour of Saskatchewan. I recently was the speaker for a Christian women's retreat in Winkler, Manitoba where I gave four talks.

I started my professional career as a teacher in 2000. Currently I am a kindergarten teacher. My young and eager students keep me looking at the world with fresh eyes. I love reading to my students and passing on a love of words and language.

Reading has always brought joy to me. I am reading a lot of memoirs but dabbling in fiction as well.

Personal
I didn't think much about growing up in a biracial home but throughout my childhood and adulthood I noticed differences between my family and others. My parents gave us, their three kids, confidence in who we were and they expected us to do well in life. I grew up knowing I had their love and support and that continues to this day. I am also married and have two wonderful kids--soon I won't be able to call them that. It is one of my greatest joys watching them out in the world while still being connected to their roots and family. I am a French Immersion teacher by profession and love using music and the arts in my work.
