It's a Pizza Life For Me! The scurvy sailor song that never made the book

I loved Great Big Sea when they first hit the airwaves in the early 90s. Living in land-locked Saskatchewan, sea shanties have always held appeal. "The Pirates on the South Saskatchewan" by the Arrogant Worms is a great example of how the music and humour of those songs connect to our prairie hearts.

So here it is, the song for Kale who features in Miss G and Me. He was the boarder who moved to my parents' house after he was diagnosed with scurvy because he was only eating pizza. Alan Doyle--if you are interested in a new shanty...here you go!

It's a Pizza Life for Me

Yo ho ho!

Away I go

I'm sailing on my own

I don't much cook

I'm off the hook

I'm far away from home

I get my phone

I order in

It's a simple way to be

I'm a grown man, but I eat what I want

It's a pizza life for me!

I'm feeling weak, weary and sick

My bones are achin' bad

I'm bruising now

I'm dizzy down

I might be going mad

Hunger calls

I neary fall

I cannae stand to pee

Even though it's killin' me gut

It's a pizza life for me!

Even though it's killin' me gut

It's a Pizza Life for Me!

JUST TAKE VITAMIN C!
